The Great Community Clean Up Success Story: Before & After
Hero Environmental Services recently joined the Great Community Clean Up to help clean an area that had become a dumping site.
Over time, abandoned vehicle wreckage, vehicle parts, tires, household trash, mixed garbage bags, plastic containers, scrap wood, construction debris, broken furniture, mattresses, metal scraps, glass, burned debris, and other bulky waste had built up across the property. What was once open land was covered with unwanted materials that made the area look neglected and unsafe. The before-and-after photos tell the story best.
What The Illegal Dump Site Looked Like Before Cleanup
Before the cleanup, the area was covered with trash and dumped items. There were piles of debris, household junk, and other waste scattered across the site. Cleaning up a site like this takes more than simply picking up trash. Some of the items were large, heavy, and difficult to move. The items mainly included -
- Abandoned vehicle wreckage (heavily damaged SUV/truck body)
- Vehicle parts and automotive debris
- Tires and rubber materials
- Household trash and mixed garbage bags
- Plastic bottles, jugs, and containers
- Food packaging and disposable containers
- Cardboard boxes and paper waste
- Scrap wood and broken lumber
- Construction and demolition debris
Our team first looked over the site and made a plan for removing the waste safely. We clearly understood that the project area needed a thorough cleanup. Working together with the community, Hero Environmental Services helped remove the waste and start restoring the site.
For this project, the condition of the site made it clear that a coordinated cleanup effort was needed to restore the area and prevent the problem from continuing to grow.
How Hero Environmental Helped Restore The Site
During the Great Community Clean Up, Hero Environmental Services provided the equipment, skilled manpower, and field experience needed to support the cleanup effort.
The cleanup involved collecting and removing various plastic containers, cardboard, scrap wood, broken furniture, rubber materials, metal pieces, and other debris from across the site while ensuring the work was completed safely and efficiently. With the right equipment and experienced personnel on site, our team was able to help move the project forward and support the overall restoration effort.
Hero Environmental is based in Reno and serves Northern Nevada with hazardous and non-hazardous waste services, junk removal, environmental cleanup, emergency response, and field support. For a community cleanup like this, that mix of services matters because illegal dumping can include many different types of waste.
The Results
Our crew, with the help of the local community, carefully removed the large debris piles and scattered waste like -
- Metal scraps and sheet metal pieces
- Broken furniture components
- Mattresses and bedding materials
- Large appliance/electronic-looking debris (white household items)
- Pipes, tubing, and miscellaneous hardware
- Fabric, clothing, and textile waste
- Glass bottles and broken glass
- Insulation and building material fragments
The site now looked cleaner, safer, and more usable for the community. The Great Community Clean Up showed what happens when local people and a local environmental team step in instead of looking the other way.
For Hero Environmental Services, projects like this are about more than waste removal. They are opportunities to help restore spaces that people use every day and support the communities we serve throughout Northern Nevada.
